Lilies

I have many many varieties of lilies in my yard.  They are wonderful.  Some are short and are perfect for edge plants while others are planted in towards the center of a flowerbed.  Some have a fragrance while others do not.  I only have Asiatics, Martagons and LA Hybrids.

I have sorted the pictures alphabetically.  When looking at them, if you click on the picture I placed more info underneath the picture. If I knew the catalogue number of the lily at the Lily Nook then I have included this number for you.  Also,  the hybridizer and year registered is in brackets, a description of the flower if I could find one and the kind of lily it is, whether it is...
Division 1
    A ... Asiatic
Probably the easiest lily to grow.  They love sun and are hardy to zone 2. The majority of my lilies are Asiatics.
Division 2
    M ... Martagon
These dainty flowered lilies have as many as 50 flowers on tall erect stems. These bulbs, once placed in the garden should be left alone for many years. They are a great choice for a shady spot and make a wonderful companion plant to hostas, pulmonaria and heuchera.
Division 3
LA Hybrids ... LA Hybrids: Longiflorum x Asiatics
These lilies are very hardy, have a better substance than asiatics, far longer lasting blooms and a stronger stems with lots of large slightly fragrant flowers.

In the beginning of April 2011 I had the honor of being asked to be a director on the Manitoba Regional Lily Society. We will meet about 4 times a year and will plan various lily events and fall bulb sales around Manitoba.  I am looking forward to learning how the Society runs and help wherever possible.

Enjoy the pictures!
